Technical Tips
A number of our customers have smoke detectors and/or fire systems connected to a fire zone of their security system for monitoring. One feature of the fire zone is a delayed transmission ( 30 seconds ) of the fire signal to our monitoring station. If the smoke detector is tripped accidentally, and a code is then entered to silence the alarm, no signal will be transmitted. This is designed to cut down on false alarms. If the code is not entered, the fire signal will be sent. The concern arises when a customer calls in to say they have tripped their ( fire ) alarm, and our operator informs them that we have not received a fire signal. As explained above, this is normal.
